Welcome

Beth Chaim Beit Midrash ~ A House of Learning

Imagine classrooms filled with colorful aleph bet borders. Imagine walls adorned with children’s artwork of newly learned Hebrew letters and their images of the Jewish holidays. Imagine the aroma of warm, sweet challah, latkes, and savory charoset lofting from classrooms. Imagine hearing beautiful chanting from our youth. Imagine being with your children, learning and sharing the joys of Jewish celebrations and discovery. Indeed, this is a Beit Midrash, a House of Learning.

Our Beit Midrash engages our students so they may experience the treasures of our Jewish traditions in ways that will surprise and delight them. We encourage our students to discover, create, and explore the spiritual dimensions of their lives. Our entire Beit Midrash staff has a passion and connection to our deeply rooted Jewish values that will allow us to experience enlightening journeys together in our classrooms that we hope will inspire family discussions and involvement.

We celebrate the uniqueness of each individual student in realizing his/her learning potential for their own spiritual growth. We expect our teachers to have substantive input into their curriculum and encourage them to teach from their strengths and passions. Our projects and educational approaches create a deeper appreciation of Jewish values, and we share insights into the meaning of holidays and rituals. Once students are able to read Hebrew, we teach the structure of the Jewish Prayer Service, introduce individual central prayers and their meanings, and encourage students to explore their own spirituality and connection to them.

Our program consists of classes for pre-kindergarten through seventh grade. We integrate Hebrew and Judaic studies on Sunday mornings and add a midweek session beginning in third grade. Our teens are invited into our Madrichim Program, which is an extension of our Religious School allowing our post B’nei Mitzvah students to remain involved by becoming youth educator aides in our classrooms.

Our Beit Midrash offers more than just the aleph bet and history lessons, it is a place that our students feel welcome and safe, where they can freely express their insights, a place where they can experience their Judaism through music, joyful celebrations, art, lively discussions, and exploration of their own spirituality, and most of all, a place where they feel proud and happy to be Jewish. Together we learn with ruach (spirit), while we deepen our connections with one another, and embrace the uniqueness of our diverse community that is welcoming to all. Please visit soon. We look forward to meeting you.
